Copyright ? 2005 "I don't want any weeds to have to deal with."The infamous statement uttered by millions. That is a pretty tall order to attempt to fill. Over the years, I have discovered that many people believe the fallacy that rock mulch over plastic or landscape cloth will render their planting free of weeds forever and ever. Covering up the soil equals no weeds? In truth this is an absolutely not possible. After fighting weeds on hundreds of acres over decades of weeks, I can assure you it is just not possible. Nothing is sure in life but weeds and taxes. It is best to Accept the fact that one will have to deal with them after a while. That plastic will begin to deteriorate and poke up through the mulch looking very unsightly. Don't try to remove it after a few years either, it will fall all apart and be partly under the dirt and partly stuck in the root systems of the maturing shrubs. You'll not be able to till up parts of the bed for a new look without angst over the rototiller being all bound up with strips of plastic and rocks wedged tightly between the tines.Landscape plastic will only delay the weeds and cause another series of problems. It is commonly known that plastic repels water. That little hole left in the plastic sheeting around the base of your shrub or tree is not going to allow enough water to pass through to the roots at all. The fuller the leaf canopy, the less water will drip down through to the center instead the majority of the moisture will run off around the drip line. Plastic does not breathe either and healthy roots need air along with their water for plants to be healthy and flourish.Stone mulch will either make the roots hotter or colder, depending on the weather as stone radiates heat and cold. The reason for mulch to be applied is to insulate the root system from extremes and help retain moisture longer to promote the health of the plants. Those plants that need air to the roots will not thrive under plastic and stone where insufficient air makes them weak and sickly. While stone may look good to some ? it is very costly and dirt will still collect on the top of the weed barrier. As soon as things start going to seed around the protected area, there will be weeds everywhere in the stone rooting into that thin layer of deposited soil on top of the plastic. It is inevitable that weed roots beneath that plastic will creep around under it searching for an escape from the dark. These undercover and unwanted roots will never be found to eradicate, making them a constant problem to try and get rid of.Landscape cloth is better in that it allows consistent moisture and some airflow to roots, but it does let weeds pop through the small holes in the weave. Once you have a weed rooted through the fabric, you will never be able to pull the roots. These contrived barriers in the long run will only make the installation more costly and a false belief that you will now be weed-free. Landscape cloth has beneficial applications in some situations and is best left to control erosion and not weeds. If you simply must have mulch, the best choice for your shrub and tree beds is shredded hardwood or cedar bark mulch. Shredded bark mulches are fuzzy along the edges causing them to mat down and knit together after a good rain to stop erosion of loose soil to a great extent. Wood mulch encourages bugs to take up residence in it as deteriorating wood is their natural habitat. This will add the cost and need to spray chemicals on the mulch to control bugs that would never have moved in plain soil. Many is the horticultural professional who will not apply mulch to their planting beds for several reasons beginning with the insects it attracts. Secondly, they are aware that over time wood mulch decomposes to be soil again, thereby raising the soil level around the plants in the bed (causing future health problems with plants such as trees). Thirdly, because it makes it more difficult to weed the bed.--------------------For great Gardening tips and articles, visit:http://www.LostInTheFlowers.com.

The average age that people live to in the western world is steadily increasing as medical advances continue at pace. This has led to many people wanting to find solutions to help them to stay looking young for longer periods. A new market has been borne, one of anti ageing products and advice.

We are often shown pictures and images in the media and on our television screens, of famous people who look far younger than they actually are. Most people marvel at them and wonder how they have managed to keep up their youthful appearance, despite their advancing age. They then want to emulate these famous people by finding ways in which they too can delay this ageing process.

Top cosmetic companies are now hiring some of these people to help them to advertise their own anti ageing products. Products such as wrinkle cream are becoming big business and are being marketed in such a way that makes people believe that it will help them to stay looking young for longer. These products are not that cheap however and for how many years are we supposed to keep using these creams for example? The cost could soon mount up causing certain people to stress, this itself could easily lead to even more wrinkles!

I am sure that some of these products are beneficial and are very popular, however we are not all in the position where we can keep buying them each week or each month.

In my opinion there are a number of simple steps that we can follow to delay this ageing process, steps that actually will not cost us anything.

Too much exposure to the sun can be a very bad thing and can have the affect of speeding up the ageing process. Sun beds are also known, from what I have read, to be a cause of wrinkles, if over used. Therefore avoid too much sun and sun beds!

A lot of people in the western world work far too hard in my opinion, in a quest to earn more money. They can lose valuable sleep by doing this and the stress of the work is also likely to have a damaging affect on the ageing process. Obtaining plenty of sleep is important for people wanting to delay this ageing process, as is attempting to live as stress-free a life as possible.

I would also advise people to look after their own health. Smoking cigarettes is certainly not going to help people to stay looking young. Taking regular exercise such as swimming or jogging is likely to help however.

The bed is the centerpiece of any bedroom. Beds range from straw-filled to extravagant and rich. The early civilizations had beds that were beautifully decorated. Egyptians slept on couches that had legs shaped in the form of animals. These couches were covered with ivory, gold or paint. Since the Greeks used couches for both dining and sleeping, they were made to accommodate both. As time passed the beds became larger and ornamental. The nobility and the wealthy had elaborately decorated beds referred to as state beds. These beds were hung with silk, velvet or other fabrics. Beds often served as symbols of social rank and wealth.

Today, a simple frame that can support a mattress is preferred by most. A wide variety of beds are available to suit varied styles and different budgets. To decide what kind of bed fits your bedroom and budget, determine the style, design and size of the bed that you are looking for. The size of the bed should be in proportion to the size of the bedroom.

Some beds have a headboard and footboard that curve upward almost shaped like a sleigh. This bed fits well in a bedroom with a low ceiling. There are four-poster beds that have canopies that can be closed at night. There are elaborate beds made of iron or brass. Some beds have upholstered footboards and headboards. These beds are designed for comfort allowing you to sit back and read.

Some beds come equipped as two beds in one. There is a second bed attached under the main bed that can be pulled out when needed. When storage is an issue, the ideal bed has a mattress that is supported by a platform with provision for drawers and space for storage. Named for its designer, space saving "Murphy beds" fold into a wall unit when not in use. Other types of beds include bunk beds, air beds, water beds and beds specially designed for children.

The bed is the most important feature in a bedroom. Do your homework before choosing one. The correct size and the style can definitely transform your bedroom into a beautiful space..

Copyright 2006 Allen Shaw

Take my word for it, no matter how much you want your new puppy to sleep with you, this is not the best option. Especially when you're dealing with a 75-pound behemoth that's scared of a little thunder. Your king-sized bed suddenly becomes half a twin-size bed. So next to food and a trip to the vet, a good dog bed should be one of your first major purchases. But what kind of dog bed should you get? There are literally hundreds of choices. For instance:

Large dog beds for the type of dog mentioned in the first paragraph

Outdoor beds for the pooch who prefers sleeping under the stars

Fancy designer beds for the pampered pooch that's probably related to Paris Hilton's Tinkerbelle

Travel and car beds for the dogs who spend a lot of time on the road

Heated beds for the cold-natured little breeds

Orthopedic beds for the pooches getting up there in age Iron beds for the decorating pooches in your household

Chew-proof beds for?well?you know

And waterproof beds for the little pups who sometimes get a little scared at night?you know what I mean.

But no matter the bed you buy, there are a couple of rules you should be aware of. First, make sure every part of the bed is machine washable. No matter how many times you wash your dog, he's going to manage to smell up that bed. And if it's a bed you keep in your own bedroom, the odors that will eventually emanate from that bed will give you nightmares.

Second, get a bed with cedar shavings or a thick foam pad as the padding. This will help immensely with keeping your favorite flea friends from becoming permanent residents of your dog's bed. Third, make sure you buy the right size dog bed. If possible, take your dog with you when you buy the bed. No matter how cute the bed is, or how well it goes with your home d?cor, if your dog can't comfortably lay down in the bed, he won't use it.

Also, pay close attention to what the bed is made of. Wicker is cute and very stylish. But fleas love it. And for the dog that hasn't quite gotten over the chewing stage yet, a wicker bed is little more than the world's largest chew toy. Beanbags are also popular dog beds because most people born in the late 60s still have one stowed away in their basements or attics somewhere (yes you do, admit it). But have you ever seen what's inside a beanbag? You will find out very quickly if Fido discovers how to operate the zipper that keeps the stuffing in the bag. You would be wise to leave the beanbag in the attic and open your wallet cheapskate.

So now that you've done the research, go out and buy your new best friend a great bed. Remember to get the proper size. Get one with cedar shaving or foam as the padding. Make sure all parts of the bed are machine washable. And most importantly, make sure Fido likes the bed or you will have an unwanted visitor in the middle of the night?especially when there's thunder.

Written by Jan Dowker from Simply Organic, The Palms Tanning Resort's Public Relations company.Greenwood Village, CO (ContentDesk) OCTOBER 24 2003--Surrounded by the soothing sounds of ocean waves, a 9-foot waterfall and incredibly appointed individual tanning rooms, The Palms Tanning Resort continues to raise the bar in the tanning salon industry for its upscale salon design, attention to customer service, use of sunless tanning technology and revolutionary tanning beds.Although still in its infancy, Keith and Holly Rodenberger, owners of The Palms Tanning Resort, have invested both time and energy to create a flourishing business. Their efforts are gaining them national recognition throughout the tanning industry."We've taken the industry by storm because we believe that tanning is more than a necessity, it's a luxury. Everyone that goes to a tanning salon should escape the ordinary. Our salon provides our clients with just that experience," says Keith Rodenberger.Recognition for their innovative concepts includes being voted Best of Business in Denver by Places with Spaces 2003-2004 for the superior customer service they provide. They were also rated highest for overall customer satisfaction. Other awards include the 2003 Best Image award by Today's Image magazine in recognition of the salon's outstanding identity and marketing/promotion materials, designed by Denver-based Prologix, Inc. (http://www.prologix.com).Earlier this year, the salon was chosen as a finalist for Best D?cor and Best Image for the Today's Image Las Vegas Tanning Expo. It is the only salon to ever be nominated in both categories.Featured in the May 2003 issue of Tanning Trends Magazine as The Member of the Month, The Palms Tanning Resort was the youngest salon in the history of the publication to be honored with that designation, having just opened in February 2003.More news stories about the upscale salon's special services and unique approach to tanning are available at www.ThePalmsTanningResort.com. According to Keith Rodenberger, "The Palms Tanning Resort takes tanning a step above their competitors," incorporating a vacation-like ambiance that is meant to "transport clients from the ordinary?to an island paradise."The salon captures the warmth of the islands with its hand-tied bamboo walls; stone flooring with imported beach sand and a twelve-foot theatre wall with moving ocean images of sunsets and beautiful white sand beaches. As the official tanning salon of the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders, The Palms provides some of Denver's most recognized celebrities with the warm glow of a golden tan through its sunless tanning technology, The Mystic. Also available are beds that integrate the latest indoor tanning technology, costing upwards of $50,000 each, and offering individuals an opportunity to relax and ?escape the ordinary' of everyday routines.
When Lucky was starting to show signs of aging, we were concerned about her comfort. She would have a hard time getting up in the morning. Her legs would shake and she would take five minutes just to get up, where once she could pounce up in a second. Her hips were really thin and her muscle mass was decreasing rapidly. What we found out was that we could help her by getting an orthopedic dog bed. The sad part is, we probably could have helped her avoid this by getting it for her when she was younger.See, dogs can develop calluses and arthritis from laying on hard floors or rocks in the ground.Naturally we did what we could to make her more comfortable during her last days. That dog was a mighty powerhouse in her time, and it was so hard to see her deteriorate like this. Now, all five of our dogs have warm dog beds to keep them comfortable, warm, and most importantly, healthier..

Cape Cod has a wide variety of lodging options to suit the requirements of every vacationer. From luxury resorts to camping; from chocolates on your pillow to walking to the bathroom facilities - you can select the level of service and cost that you desire - and most importantly - that fits your wallet!

There over 375 places to choose from to stay at on Cape Cod and the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Hotels and motels account for about a half of this number, with bed and breakfasts making up about 35%. We found 23 campgrounds and there are also quite a few luxury resorts. The rates varied as widely as the variety of accommodations. And, of course, you can expect to pay top dollar during "high season" in July and August. Since more and more people travel in the late spring and early fall these days, we have noticed that rates have for those times are not as low as they used to be, but they are still quite a bit cheaper than prime summer time.

The traditional standard Cape Cod hotel is widely sought after lodging for families wanting a reasonably priced vacation place to stay. You can expect your accommodations to include a reasonably sized room with one or two beds, private bathroom, television and telephone. Amenities may include complimentary breakfast, a pool, internet access and/or a restaurant on site. Generally speaking, the more amenities and the closer to the waterfront, the higher the cost. Most rooms will accommodate 4-6 people, with at least one person being 18 or over and owning a credit card. With costs ranging from $60 to $400 in the summer and $45 to $200 during off-peak times, there is something affordable for every budget.

Some people like the anonymity of staying at a Cape Cod hotel, but for others, a more intimate and quaint setting represents the perfect vacation. There are over 140 Bed and Breakfasts on Cape Cod and the islands that can satisfy this desire. Each has its own unique character and special history and offer the selective traveler a different kind of vacation experience than a hotel can. The first difference you will notice is price as they are almost always more expensive. The other differences you will notice are attention to personal service, limited number of rooms available, the beautiful and unique decor of the rooms, and the delightful, homemade breakfast that is prepared for guests. Interacting with the owners is also often mentioned as one of the highlights of a stay at a B&B. On Cape Cod many B&Bs are old ship captains' houses that have been converted. The original beauty of these old buildings has been maintained, and the furnishings and decor enhance the history and unique background of each. You can tell that the owners take a special pride in caring for their residence and caring for their guests. A stay at a Cape Cod bed & breakfast is a relaxing and delightful way to experience a bit of New England history on your vacation.

Luxury resorts on Cape Cod, though few, are everything that the upscale traveler could ask for. With tennis, golf, spas, fine restaurants, children's programs, exceptional service, and excellent accommodations - not to mention high cost - Cape Cod resorts offer all the amenities the most discriminating person might desire. Resort prices can range up to $1,000 per night, but generally cost is not a factor to those seeking the absolute best.

Camping on the Cape also has many choices. From large campgrounds with over 450 sites to small ones with less than 80, you can find a place that suits your family. Most offer many more amenities than years ago - a few even have internet cyber booths! The cost can still add up, but is still cheaper than staying in a hotel. In "high season", you can expect to pay anywhere from $33 to $46 per day for a tent site with water and electric service. Off-season those rates range from $18 to $34 per day. If you add extra adults, children, guests, a boat, or cable, your cost goes up even more.

As you can see, Cape Cod offers something for everyone when it comes to where to stay. From camping to the finest luxury resort, there is a place to fit your family's budget and needs.
